Beware! If during the Windows update process through the microsoft updating site you got a message that registry was corrupt and needed to urgently fix the errors by going to www.registrycleanerxp.com plus later www.updatepatch.info, it means that your computer is infected with malware.
You should run some (legitimate) removal tools such as
Lavasoft Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Microsoft Antispyware Beta http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
These are all most effective if you first update the definition files, then reboot and scan in Safe Mode. This prevents active malware components from repairing themselves.
Once you have removed everything those tools find, run HijackThis (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) and upload the log to http://www.hijackthis.de/. It will tell you which entries should be removed.
